Arriving at Agadir Al Massira Airport
Agadir Al Massira (airport code AGA) has direct flights from many European cities, including routes run by low-cost airlines, which is one reason Taghazout is so easy to reach for a week of surf. After passport control and baggage claim you come out into the arrivals hall, where you will find ATMs and currency exchange desks. The Moroccan dirham is a closed currency, so you get it on arrival rather than at home; it is worth taking out some cash for taxis, tips and small shops, where cards are rarely accepted.
Option 1: Surf Camp Pick-Up From Agadir Airport to Taghazout
This is the easiest way, especially if you arrive tired or late. Send us your flight details after booking, and a driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall and take you straight to the camp, surfboard included. Most Twist Surf packages include the pick-up: Premium and Ultimate include both the pick-up and the drop-off, and in the other packages you can add a transfer for €30 per way in the booking form.
Option 2: Grand Taxi From the Airport to Taghazout
Grand taxis, usually large white cars, wait outside the terminal and can drive you directly from the airport to Taghazout. At the time of writing, travellers report fares of around 250 to 300 dirhams during the day and 300 to 350 dirhams at night for the whole car. There is no meter for this trip, so agree the price with the driver before you get in, have cash ready, and mention your surfboard: board bags may cost a little extra or need to go on the roof.
Option 3: Bus From Agadir Airport to Taghazout
On a budget, you can make the trip on Agadir’s city buses, run by ALSA. It is by far the cheapest option but takes much longer, with changes on the way, so it works best if you arrive during the day with light luggage. Surfboard bags can be a problem on city buses. At the time of writing, the route looks like this:
- Take line 37 from the airport to Inezgane.
- From Inezgane, take a city bus to the centre of Agadir.
- In Agadir, take line 32 or 33, which runs up the coast road to Taghazout for a few dirhams.
Bus lines and timetables change, so check the current schedule on the ALSA Agadir website before you travel.
Option 4: Hire a Car
Several car hire companies have desks at the airport. A car gives you freedom for road trips to Imsouane, Paradise Valley or Essaouira, but you rarely need one for a surf week: parking in Taghazout village is limited, and surf camps drive you to the spots. If you do drive, follow the ring road around Agadir and then the coast road north, and avoid driving at night on unfamiliar roads.
Coming From Marrakech Instead
Marrakech has more flights, but it is roughly three hours from Agadir by road. Long-distance coaches run by companies such as CTM and Supratours connect Marrakech with Agadir bus station, and we can pick you up there and bring you to the camp. It is a good option if you want to combine a few days in Marrakech with your surf week.
Arriving Late at Night
Many flights land in the evening. If you take a taxi at night, expect the higher night fare and agree it before you leave the airport.
